About this event

An Overnight Bikepacking Loop
We'll start in Sharbot Lake, and make our way up to Calabogie where we'll stay the night. On the second day we'll loop our way back south.
  • Distances and Food Stops The first day's ride is 96 km. The second day's ride is 91 km. There are no food stops on the route that I know of.
  • The Bikepacking Part Riders will need to carry the following on their bikes:
    • Food and Hydration Bring for the first day. You'll be able to resupply for the second day at Charbonneau's Grocery in Calabogie.
    • Off bike clothing
    • Sleeping gear and toiletries
Accommodation We'll be staying at the Calabogie Motor Inn. Riders will be responsible for booking their own accommodation.
  • Breakfast on the Second Day We'll pick up breakfast supplies at Charbonneau's Grocery at the end of the first day.
Registration and Weather The weather in May is sometimes unreliable. Thus, I'll proceed as follows:
  • Registration If you are seriously interested in participating, please register now. Registration is not a firm commitment. It's simply to assist me in planning.
  • Real Scheduling Decision Starting in late April, I will monitor the weather forecasts. If I see a week with a couple of nice warm sunny days in the forecast, I'll tentatively schedule the event on those two days. I'll then phone the Calabogie Motor Inn to determine if they have possible accommodation for us. I have spoken to the innkeeper who indicated that mid-week in May is usually pretty quiet. If accommodation is available, I'll email the tentative registrants so that they can go ahead and make their reservations. The hotel's cancellation policy is 48 hours. Thus, if the forecast starts to change, there will still be an opportunity to cancel. However, I'm hoping that the weather forecast will be sufficiently solid so that cancellation is unlikely.
